National Walkout Day

Our news media, the Internet and even our discussions at the water cooler at work have been inundated with National Walkout Day. As our children are exposed to the political realities of America in 2018, what we are finding is not only a lesson for our future generations but also a cautionary tale in which the walkout reveals the widening divide between us.

First off, these children (most of them) do not have a clue what they are doing or supporting. In a previous article here at Committed Conservative (On National Walkout Day: The Ignorant Children of Stupid Adults Protest the Bill of Rights), we discuss how these children are being used as pawns in a larger game, and their parents are literally so lacking in knowledge that they are willingly allowing the folks behind this to do so with their children.

We know having a movement against the Bill of Rights is a sham. With the help of the media and school administrators, the Left hopes its attack on the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and our core American principles will succeed because the lies they tell will be loud and often repeated.

While the students who walked out receive little in the way of punishment for breaking the rules, those that speak out for the Bill of Rights or even question this movement are running into a buzz saw.

In Ohio, a student was suspended from school for not participating in the walkout (or going to a “study hall”). Many on the right are upset that the student was singled out for his views and punished accordingly. This is not the case in this instance. The Hilliard Davidson High School senior Jacob Shoemaker refused to attend the walkout That’s true. He also refused to attend a study hall provided for students who would not participate. As such, he broke school rules.

I hate to tell my fellow conservatives this … but he deserved the suspension. He wasn’t going to be allowed to stay in a classroom unsupervised.

Now, you are probably scratching your head asking “wait, how does that view jive with the position staked out earlier in this article?”

Simple.

Mr. Shoemaker was punished for breaking the rules. He stood up for what he believed in, walked out of class, and he risked punishment in doing so. That may be considered either brave or fool-hearty depending on how you want to look at it.

But where is the punishment for those who walked out of class to attend the Walkout? Why are these children considered “brave” when they risked nothing? They were allowed to break the rules without any repercussions.

Some will says “many school systems authorized the walkout.” That means those schools actually made a political protest a government sanctioned event … like a pep rally.  If that is the case…then we have to ask the larger question:

“Why did school systems put together a political event and authorize their students to attend and participate in that political event?”

Schools have no business advocating any political side. School systems taking positions on political issues is a principle at odds with our Constitution and our Bill of Rights.  Doing so turns places of learning into indoctrination camps.

Government schools cannot become places where school administrators try to shape and mold the political views of the students in their charge, using them to further their own or the local government’s political ends.

In such school systems, the children hurt by these disinformation campaigns. When Americans see this plainly happening, whether they are children themselves, like this Ohio student, they are being squashed and punished for demanding that schools be nuetral.

It’s outrageous.

Students participate in National Walkout Day

Don’t believe me? All one has to do is look at Rocklin High School (California) teacher Julianne Benzel and what happened to her this week.

Ms. Benzel questioned allowing students to “walkout” anytime they wanted. She used a perfect example to highlight the point in a class discussion. She questioned if a different, controversial subject was to be protested, how would those students be treated by the administration?

Her example was to substitute an anti-Second Amendment protest for an anti-abortion protest. Would the students be allowed to walk out of class to protest abortion without penalty?

She stated “If you’re going to allow students to walk up and get out of class without penalty then you have to allow any group of students that wants to protest.”

She was then suspended.

The Rocklin High School spokesperson provided a statement that said, “A Rocklin High School teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave due to several complaints from parents and students involving the teacher’s communications regarding today’s student-led civic engagement activities.”

This statement makes clarifies the concern raised by this article … to wit .. those who think these public schools are punishing people based on ideology are dead right. Our government-run schools are picking sides, whether one is a student or teacher.

The interesting part of the school statement is the last sentence. They stated the events were “student-led civic engagement activities.” This is a complete admission by the school system that they were authorizing a political event for the students.

Folks, as I wrote in a previous article, the Civil War is Here, the Left has taken control of many of the levers of our society, including education. We are losing our Republic, our unalienable rights, and now the Bill of Rights.

Unfortunately, if Americans don’t stand up and take back our schools soon, the young skulls full of mush that our current educators are turning out will leave us with new generations that know nothing about being an American and who will be willing to be led to abandon their rights and their birthright.

God save us.
