Indianapolis Colts Linebacker, Edwin Jackson died when a vehicle plowed into a car in which he was a passenger. The driver of the car that struck him was arrested for DUI on the scene.
On Sunday, authorities said Alex Cabrera Gonsales, 37, drove his truck into an emergency shoulder on the highway and plowed into a “ride-share vehicle,” killing Jackson and another passenger, believed to be his “Uber” driver. Gonsales was booked at Marion County Jail, where records showed that he is wanted for deportation.
Initial reporting from the Washington Times left the suspect’s immigration status in question, noting only that he was wanted on a detainer.
A local report in Indianapolis by CBS4, however, claims Edwin Jackson was killed by Manuel Orrego-Savala, who was in the country both illegally and fraudulently. He had been previously deported, carried no license, and he was using a Gonsales as a fictitious name.
Teammates and former coaches took immediately to social media to express their grief for Jackson, just 26 years’ old.
Rest In Peace Edwin Jackson. Gone too soon. Fine young man!#poundcake pic.twitter.com/Ve1wNQSBUX
