The rumor mill has been floating all morning, and I too tweeted out a source claiming Gorsuch was the pick this morning. Guy Benson has gone all in on saying he thinks it is Gorsuch based on numerous sources of different types. Picking what Trump might do is risky business, and a misdirection is always possible.
Gorsuch is a conservative darling, and his credentials are beyond reproach. His views on limiting executive authority and agency deference will make Constitutional Conservatives swoon. Though, some suggest his strong views on religious liberty could put him at odds with immigration laws that disfavor a person based solely on religion … not they we have such laws or executive orders.
Guy Benson is a strong reporter. He is credible, and he is plugged in. Yes, he’s a bit nervous going out on this limb, but he has a 50% chance of being right, even if every source is not credible.
Gorsuch will appease real conservatives, and his choice would make opposition to him based solely on political ideology and not qualification. That’s not new anymore since the Borking incident, but he is a stronger pick that we have seen of any nominee in years.
