We Were Right

Being a Type A personality, you know that I love being told that I am correct about something. Also, folks like me are notorious for wanting to tell you when we were right about something.

Based on all available intelligence coming out of Washington, it appears that a second shutdown will be averted, and that President Donald Trump will sign the $1 trillion funding bill, which includes money for a barrier on our southern border.

Back in January, in the middle of the longest shutdown in U.S. history, I called how the shutdown would end. In the article (How the Shutdown Will End), I stated the following:

“My prediction is that the shutdown will end in the next 14 days or so. And unless the Democrats under Speaker Pelosi’s leadership, decide not to “die” on this hill and back down (not likely at this point), President Trump will use the intransigence of the Democrats to declare a national emergency and to divert the $5 billion in funds he requested from the Department of Defense and build the next section of the wall.”

Now I was off on the timing and possibly the exact amount of the barrier funding, as President Trump used the Democrats own talking points against them by reopening the government and THEN negotiating. But what I could see was how this political battle, the first battle in the civil war, would play out.

I outlined in December that it appeared that President Trump was fixing the Democrats (go back to my initial article to see how the shutdown started, what the military term “fixing” has to do with it, and its importance “The Civil War Began This Week“). He was painting them into a corner, for which there really was no “out” for them. Not without losing.

Now it appears that President Trump will get border barrier funding from Congress, and based on the current intelligence, not give up much at all to the Democrats for things they might want. While we wait to see the details and to see if this is true, the following is what we know if President Trump should sign a bill with border barrier money in it and declares a national emergency to get the rest of the funds he needs to build the barriers.

The entire shutdown and intransigence of the Democrats was to stop President Trump from fulfilling one of his campaign promises. If this bill is what is being reported, the Democrats have failed. Not only will he build it by declaring a national emergency, but he got the Democrats to agree to fund some of it. That is a “win” for President Trump and a decided defeat for Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats.

I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, as I haven’t read the bill so what is in it may force President Trump to veto it at the 11th hour. We may also find in the bill, which I suspect is true, total mismanagement and leadership by Congress, with passing a $1 trillion budget that they didn’t read and is CERTAIN to include waste, fraud, and abuse. This dereliction of duty by our congressmen and women has to have our Founders rolling in their graves right now.

And while this all would be a political win for President Trump, and the border barrier ends up getting built, I would still call on President Trump to veto it precisely because it is the same ole Swamp legislation that is destroying our Republic. And as I said about the congress critters that passed this monstrosity, if President Trump signs it, then he owns it also. Which makes him equally a Swamp Thing as the rest of those in Washington.

And equally an enemy of our Republic.

I understand that he is trying to get his wall, and that is a good thing. And defeating the Left is ALWAYS a good thing.

But as I will cover in upcoming articles, we all as Americans had better start asking “at what cost?”

As this civil war intensifies, so will the strains Washington has been putting on our financial health, and on our liberty. While having a secure border is something we all should want and be thankful for, it isn’t much help if we collapse from within.

Sometimes “winning” means things just got a whole lot worse.
